Born in Ecuador, I come from a place where conservative values paired with its 0° latitude and steady temperature stagnate the status quo. Moving image and sound, either as a final product or as a real-time performance, have become my response media of choice to destabilize this neutrality, from which I was made of.

Chicago-based Ecuadorian writer/director Joe Houlberg, born in 1986. Studied Film and Philosophy at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito and currently is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He explores forms of creating worlds that are provocative through the atmosphere, the senses and communication beyond words and story His work has being shown in festivals and galleries around the world including: Biennale of Moving Image Geneva, Chicago Latino Film Festival, Lakino Film Festival Berlin, Nightingale, Chicago Independent Film Critics Circle, Ankara Film Festival and BlackMaria Film Festival.
