Vessel, Handmade porcelain, wire, paper-mache, chiffon, four years of writing, including diary entries, early drafts, and finalized poems. 2020

This installation defines a vessel, providing the interpretation that a body is a vessel and so are words. Each sculpture represents one of the last four years and the events that anchor each. Merging a writing and visual art practice, the work explores the pain, resentment, and fulfillment of fighting for the sovereignty of one's body. A reminder of the weight words carry; words we say to one another and to ourselves. A reminder of the weight bodies carry, physically and emotionally. Each sculpture is paired with a poem, compile into a chapbook. Copies of the chapbook were located on the floor. These were to be taken by the viewer, a reminder of the parallels between suffering and growth.
