Love is the subject, and many are the splendors, from Chuck Jones\u2019 interspecies tearjerker <em>Feed the Kitty <\/em><\/span><span>(1952) to the<span> <\/span>excruciating first date of Don Herzfeldt\u2019s <em>Lily and Jim <\/em><\/span><span>(1997).<span> <\/span>A forgotten masterpiece, <em>Joie de vivre<\/em><\/span><span> (1934, Hector Hoppin &amp; Anthony Gross) is an erotic Art-Deco bookplate come to life, while an eerie sort of tenderness suffuses Suzan Pitt\u2019s primal-scene drama <em>Crocus <\/em><\/span><span>(1971).
