After receiving the grant, Francisca promptly enrolled for the Creative Commons Certification Course for Educators. Throughout the ten-week-long online course, Francisca learned a tremendous amount about copyright, the purpose and uses of CC licenses and tools, and their general impact on creative cultures around the world. The classes were asynchronous and guided by modules on Canvas. Every 1-2 weeks, students had to deliver a comprehensive assignment indicating our full understanding of the material presented that week. Francisca decided that she wanted her final project to be something that she could share with the MAAAP department so she created a series of online lectures that address everything she learned about CC, but is specifically geared towards a community of emerging artists and administrators.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through a combination of online learning on Canvas and Slack, Francisca was able to communicate with not only other fellow students and instructors but with people from all over the world who are participants of the larger Global Commons and other open access initiatives. Francisca has been able to connect with so many people with shared interests and become increasingly active in discussions about open GLAMs and copyright reform, subjects that will definitely inform her thesis work during the academic year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
