Myungah Hyon (현명아)

Myungah Hyon is a multimedia printmaker and educator whose body of work regularly addresses themes of “connecting.” Her artist books and paper sculptures often incorporate repeated forms that together combine to create one larger work. Though similar, these individual components are each unique, and in their proximity, influence one another and the outcome as a whole, a fitting representation of society. To encourage a physical connection, Hyon produces interactive works that are meant to be touched or played with, providing a way for people to engage with the artist and vice versa.

Hyon is a recipient of SAIC’s Faculty Enrichment Grant and an awardee of the Community Artist Assistance Program, City of Chicago; Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture; and Arts Council Korea. She has exhibited at the Artemisia Gallery, Chicago, IL; Elmhurst Art Museum, IL; Gallery 312, Chicago, IL; Gallery Factory, Seoul, Korea; Kookmin Art Gallery, Seoul, Korea; Printed Matter Inc., NY; Riverside Art Center, Riverside, IL; and the William A. Koehnline Gallery, Des Plaines, IL. Her work is included in the collections of the Joan Flasch Artists’ Books Collection at SAIC and Printed Matter Inc., NY. Hyon has published works such as the Book Book with Dreamerfty, China, and Kaleido_Book with Candor Arts, Chicago, IL.
