“Cut 2 Self”

Concept | In today’s society we are encouraged to express our individuality and not be afraid to standout from the crowd. Fashion is one of the more popular ways for people to express their individuality. The different ways people style themselves can speak a lot to their personality. Instagram is used as a platform for people to showcase their personal styles and today, we are exposed to numerous amount of content everyday with just a flat screen of the phone.

The concept for this spring collection developed from the idea thinking of our body as a product and clothing becoming the packaging that works to house the product; the clothes become a packaging that creates self-image for the public to see. Looking into different types of package designs for products, I paid close attention to the relationship between the design it self and functionality of containing the products. The research process includes looking into the flat to form production process of the clothes and the packaging. Both begin with flat paper patterns, which later turns into a three-dimensional shape that becomes a container for an object or the body.

Designing the three looks, I knew it was important for me to design clothes that were functional. This collection consists of minimal and oversized silhouettes. Through the use of long lines that follow the natural curves of the body, the clothes extenuate the beauty of the body. This collection draws inspiration from the flat patterns of the package design patterns.
