“The Coming of Age”
Concept | “The Coming of Age” explores a relatable feeling of finding one’s place in this world. It is very much a collection about the duality of myself and the need to accommodate others expectations of maturity and professionalism, while also continuing to express myself the way that I find best describes who I am as a person: outgoing, amusing, a glass of champagne…
Bio | As a third year at SAIC, Claire dedicates most of her time to working with experimental fabrics such as ribbon, tinsel, and garland. She first found her interest in the fashion world when she began making and sewing her own dance costumes as she danced competitively for most of her life. It started with piecing together small bits of lace and tulle, before soon enough she began making over one hundred each year for other dancers around the state of Florida. Since moving to Chicago, she has worked with Ballet Chicago for two consecutive years developing and sewing dance costumes, and most recently, began her practice at Ruth Page Dance Center as the assistant costumer. While Claire enjoys fashion design and the exploration of the creative process in developing her own weavings and textures, her heart will always hold a love to the intricacy of dance costuming as well.
