“This Is Mine Now”

Concept | The fashion and textile industries are currently taking a huge toll on human and environmental resources. To avoid taking part in this problematic cycle, this collection uses only upcycled, secondhand materials. This is an attempt to transform “waste” into a new and exciting product. Additionally, these garments are multi-functional to extend the garment’s use and value. Both the top and bottom piece can be transformed to be worn as both a top and a bottom garment.

Bio | Kayla Antonevich is from Massachusetts and currently a sophomore at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. With climate change being a very serious and relevant concern of hers, Kayla’s goal is to create versatile garments with minimal environmental and social impact by using only secondhand materials. In addition, she aims to create both a tactile and soothing visual experience with her designs. She hopes to reintroduce how the fashion industry views sustainability.
