“Insubordinate Youth”
Concept | Richard’s Spring 2018 collection is about fighting for the sexual orientation in Korea. Based on the experience in the Korean military, Richard finds out that Korean society is hugely homophobic, especially visible in the military. Richard uses repetitive patterns to objectify the military, a symbol of the close-minded subject under Korean government. Flares, patches, and asymmetry of three looks represent defiance to the authority. What Richard wants to say is that Korean society has to change its view: every human being is equal and has the same rights.
