During this semester, I have found myself extremely interested in found objects, and manipulated them to the point of unrecognition; through both material creation and destruction, creating something new. For example every material on the purple purse (besides the purple fabric) was sourced from an athlete’s chest/shoulder safety pad that I found laying in the street. Another example, the Hello Kitty in Gotham City outfit. The skirt was originally a bed skirt found at Village Discount and the shirt is a pair of tights. I enjoy found materials because of my environmental ethics of intentionally creating less waste, but also I enjoy the process of taking something that was found by chance and then using my hands to control it to my artistic vision. I find it a nice artistic power play between submission and resistance to both the process and the product.
