Alisia Medina is a fashion designer and artist currently attending the Art Institute of Chicago. Alisia’s work focuses on her identity and experiences. The collection STARSEED is about a seed that falls onto earth from another planet. The seed serves as a metaphor for immigrations and the seed falling from a planet connects to the term “illegal alien.” The collection consists of 10 Latinx Goddesses that showcases the experience of first generation immigrants, each inspired by the Latina woman in my life. Exploring how I can decolonize art, the female body, and depict the shared experience of first generation immigrants embracing their culture while also breaking through generational trauma.
