This collection is a personal depiction of the Icarus mythology where Icarus and his father, Daedalus, were trapped in a labyrinth by the king of Crete. To escape, Daedalus created wings of feathers and wax so they could fly out of the maze and off the island to freedom. Icarus was warned not to fly too close sun, but childish and arrogant, he flew too close and his feathers melted away and he fell into the ocean to his death.
The myth echos the fear of failing whilst striving towards success. The collection follows the narrative of Icarus’s demise through the use of worn and existing garments which are manipulated to inhibit a physical and invisible weight.
