Pain is an essential part of women’s physical experience, whether it’s menstruation, childbirth, injury, or disease. The project After the IUD started with women’s body and maternity. After researched women’s experiences of placing an IUD inside their body, I was shocked by the side effect and adverse reactions they experienced. They have to endure pain for many years, irregular bleeding, and diseases caused by long-term infections. At the same time, a lot of them didn’t have the chance to make their own decision, and the society would not encourage women to talk about their experience. The stigma. The sensitivity of breeding and maternity. It is a problem that women’s body were treated to act like engines – setting input to expect a certain output. In this project, I talked about power, shackles, and pain.
