In an attempt to find humour around me, I enjoy creating work that is a play on words, figures of speech and sarcasm. I am greatly inspired by the surrealist movement and enjoy creating works that are unexpected, uncomfortable, or create juxtapositions. With a strong background in Fine Art and Industrial Design, I find myself in a position of power to recreate relationships between different materials and methods by employing skills and knowledge acquired in one practice and applying them to another. I blur the lines between art and design by integrating technology into traditional practices. This project is an exploration of materials and methods- using the vacuum form machine I was able apply the traditional properties of leather stretching and pair them with the mechanisms of the machine in order to push the limitations to which the leather could be manipulated. I am always trying to be as sustainable in my practice as I can, this bag was created using scrap, up-cycled, veg tan leather, an up-cycled metal zipper and metal hardware. As an industrial Designer, Fashion Accessories has always been that sweet spot that bridges art and design for me, allowing me to create tangible, functional works of art. My eye for detail and methodical design practice helps me create more intricate artworks, and my knowledge as an artist informs a lot of my material explorations and experiments giving me a different approach to tackle new projects.
