Wuraola Adeniji is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist who specializes in fashion, filmmaking, and photography. She is currently pursuing her BFA in Fashion at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Her work captures surrealist themes that allow for the creation of new worlds. She incorporates new ways to create fantasy by exploring out-of-this-world scenes. By creating her own set and themes she uses old memories and dreams to build a limitless world. As a self-thought photographer, she incorporates this medium in expanding her works into the digital world. Her goal is to use her work to expand on the ideas of Afro surrealism and the experiences of people of color around the world.

As a creative, my purpose is to tell my story and the stories of others. I am a multifaceted individual who is not afraid to do things outside my comfort zone. I think of my work as a piece of me. I like to create ideas through the art of photography. My work is influenced by the beauty of the subconscious and what I can make from it. I use different mediums to express different emotions. By adding effects through Photoshop and creating mood through lighting, I can transport viewers into my mind. I leave room for myself to go beyond my typical “style” Creating art to me means staying true to myself but also being experimental.
Fashion and photography have taught me to think about how I can use those mediums to impact the world. The influence between these two forms has taught me how restrictions can serve as an inspiration to stir up creative processes rather than undermine them.
