I would like to show a new world without humans. I am sure that nature can survive without us but alas, people cannot do without it. It is a matter of great importance for me to show how sensitive and metamorphic our environment may be.
What was important for the majority of us three months ago? Was it money, food, social status, shopping, or entertainment? What is important to us today? Our health, a possibility to go outside with our family just to have a breath of fresh air.
How have our lives changed? My life changed completely three months ago when our government declared a state of emergency. What can people learn from this situation? It showed us what is important and what really makes us happy. For me, happiness is going outside to enjoy the sunshine, smell the scent of spring flowers, hear the birds singing, and to admire the colors of nature. We took everything for granted. We spoiled everything that nature had given us. Mother Nature shared all of her treasures with us, never asked to pay her back. What did we do in return? We altered and destroyed our planet. Today, the Earth is having “vacations” and we have to stay at home. This situation helps us to realize what we can lose.
I’ve always been inspired by nature – it is a thread that runs through everything I create. To my mind, nature is perfect in its imperfection. The inspiration for my fabrics is common natural forms as honeycombs, sea-foam, flowers, mushrooms, corals, fire, snowflakes, and other things. The main idea of my project is to show how the above-mentioned shapes can be changed under man’s influence. This is like a mutation process in the lab. After alteration, these familiar shapes change completely; they stay beautiful but look unknown and strange.
My concept is based on the ecological theory of “Dark Nature.” According to this theory: “the ecological catastrophe has already occurred, and we are living in a post-apocalyptic world.” Based on that, I created an installation that can give the sensation of the new environment. It is something like a magic forest inhabited by plastic objects instead of the trees. It is the world without humans.
To create my sculptures, I use 3D printing. This technology helps me to make my objects look fragile. They are likely to be destroyed easily, however they are super strong. My creations remind our planet: though it looks fragile, somehow, it is strong enough to cope with all problems caused by the people.
From time to time the Earth gives us warnings such as uncontrollable forest fires, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and other natural disasters. I believe we have to slow down and to start thinking about mistakes done.
Nowadays we realize that nature is a much more powerful phenomenon than we are! If we intend to continue our destructive activities, we may be in danger of extinction. I would like to finish my work with the following words:
God can forgive, people can forgive but nature never forgives.
