My work as a Creative Non-Fiction writer is based off my lived experiences, relying mostly on memory. I have a desire to actively go against the construction of narrative, specifically the trauma narrative, and question the experience of the self i.e. the development of a person. I do this by writing compressions in addition to utilizing found pieces from sources like Facebook, old journals, text messages, and emails. My work, at its core, is an exploration and explanation of me and I hope for it to be something discussed instead of simply read. I refrain from consuming other authors while creating in an attempt at authenticity, while asking myself these questions: Is the voice being influenced by anything? What are you speaking to outside of the real? What should be said that isn’t? What is being said that shouldn’t?
