Master of Architecture with an Emphasis in Interior Architecture

I am happy to present a short account of my experience at SAIC with 3 of my most enjoyable projects throughout the 3-year journey between 2017–2020. Being an artist at heart I have a keen sense and appreciation of the aesthetics of crafts, and I find inspiration in the deeply-rooted imagery of a place that contributes in the social and cultural life of the people and their communities. I believe architecture is not only about building but is more about spreading a message through imagination, in a way that it strengthens relationships with the built environment and each other. Among my strengths lies my undergrad bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from CEPT – Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, India, and a decade-long collaboration with interior designers coupled with a brief teaching experience in a well renowned S.N.D.T. women’s university in Mumbai. I take immense pride in mentioning that SAIC selected my thesis works as one of the five for American Institute of Architects AIA 2020 Chicago award, which gave me a chance to participate in this prestigious competition. The first 1–5 images are from my thesis research based on an indigenous craft of a Quilt named ‘Sujani’, My thesis proposes integrating Sujani with a “Cultural Walk” as a way to bring awareness about both-the heritage and the craft, while also experimenting with building materials like concrete and ceramics to explore connections of craft with the built environment, blurring boundaries between architecture and urban landscape.
