Maria Burundarena
Maria Burundarena is an interdisciplinary artist, currently focusing on site-specific interventions using projections and manipulated printed images. The materiality of the work is the image itself as well as the interaction contouring the space. She aims to create an immersive experience through layered images, reflective surfaces, and sometimes light.
Maria has developed work as a freelance photographer and art director, and with print textile and design. She has collaborated with brands such as Ayres, Bastardo, Estudio Esteban and exhibited extensively in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Bafici Film Festival, Music Festival Nuestro Tecnópolis, Centro Metropolitano de Diseño, Espacio Cabrera – Universidad de Belgrano, and Panal 361. Her work has also shown at ZAZ 10, Times Square, New York, and SITE Gallery, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Born in 1989 in Paris, France, Maria’s upbringing took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received a Bachelor in Fashion and Textile Design from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (FADU) in 2016, where she also worked as a teacher assistant between 2015 – 2018.
Maria is a candidate for the 2022 MFA in Fibers and Material Studies and is currently based in Chicago.
