Ashley Houghton is an artist, activist, and Mvskoke Citizen of Mvskoke and English descent. She uses the Mvskoke language, print media, and her knowledge of traditional crafts to explore the politics of identity, community, and reconnection.

Inspired by her own language learning journey, Ashley hopes to increase access to the Mvskoke language by translating and distributing word-based games to Mvskoke schools, citizens, and community programs.

Ashley uses basketry as a meditation to think through language, and history. As she weaves she listens to her language lessons on repeat and thinks about the psychology and complexity of connection, and the politics of identity as they pertain to her both in public and private.
