Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies

Clau Rocha is an interdisciplinary artist, thinker, and writer. They received their BA in Studio Art and BA in Interdisciplinary Studies – Latinx Narratives from Western Washington University in 2020, and are a current candidate for a MA in Visual and Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Their hybrid research-studio work centers on themes of ritual as reclamation and ritual as a method of uncovering the lost and unknown. Their work also utilizes intuition, divination, and somatic action to re-envision ancestral ritual practices as a means of re-contextualizing current archival methods as intentional spaces of healing. Clau’s current projects focus on experimenting with collaborative ritual practices and communal acts of intuitive divinatory work.
