In painting I seek the unexpected. I do not visualize my work; I see it unfold spontaneously. The ground is meticulously prepared, and then I paint without plan. As a canvas develops, new and present possibilities are constantly discovered. Working with washes of color and embodied abstract mark making, the form of these intuitive compositions illuminate their meaning and function.
The environments depicted in my work are unfamiliar. They represent a changing internal and external world where structures and foundations have shifted. This transformation is perceived through conscious awareness. Like the human experience and bodies of water, the built environment is subject to change.
