My work seeks to answer the following question: how do the intrinsic identities of material shape our connection to place and creation? This inquiry is reflected in my technical studio pursuits, as well as in the poetic resonance of my subject matter. I make paintings with tactile surfaces that are generated from my deep exploration and research of the materials and techniques of paint. The varied material use in my work engages ideas of artifice, perception, and sensory manifestation of truth. The subject matter in my work is inspired by the coevolution of natural and synthesized processes that I observe in my surroundings, from the infinitesimal to the colossal.
I view landscape, place, surface, and all resulting matter as evidence and record of the narratives which have unfolded upon it. My paintings crystalize the cosmos of the commonplace, offering viewers the opportunity to examine our fleeting reality in tangible form and to open their eyes to the embedded meaning of our physical existence.
