Estefania Arriaza


Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts Degree

Estefania Arriaza was born and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She spent part of her undergraduate career at Carnegie Mellon University, School of Art, focusing on sculpture and academic research. She finished her studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019 with a BFA in Fine Arts. Her creative practice is a result of extensive investigation, analysis, and material exploration that translates into conceptual-based work. Arriaza’s most recent work is a response to the Anthropocene, analyzing the destruction of our ecosystems, landscape politics, and tracing human psychogeographies. Her creative process allows for different media and methods resulting in stimulating environments that often conclude in public engagement practices. She is constantly traveling and moving in order to further explore the themes she converses in her work. Arriaza is currently based in Guatemala, where she finds most of her inspiration.
