Frank Vega


Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Frank Vega is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago. He is currently working on his Master of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Vega works between painting, sculpture, and hybrid objects looking for an intertwined relationship between these processes. His visual inspiration often comes from Latin American patterns, Pre-Colombian artifacts, pop culture, and Latin American traditional celebrations. Some exhibitions include Ambiente Humano, Galeria 54, Curated by Anna Garner, Mexico City, Mexico, Visceral, two-person exhibition Extra Projects with Bobbi Meier, curated by Karen Azarnia, Chicago, IL. Some awards include the Helen Frankenthaler Scholarship, selected by the Painting and Drawing Department, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Florence M. House Scholarship, and the Helen E. Platt Blake Scholarship, recognized by the faculty of Painting and Sculpture, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
