Katie Williams

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design)

Katie Williams (b. 1995) is an artist and designer in Chicago, IL. Her practice interrogates memory, portrait, archive, and heirloom to better understand intimate selfhood. Williams’ work took a decidedly material turn while studying at SAIC, and her practice now embraces and celebrates the intersection of design, weaving, and other fiber-based materiality in conjunction with a robust printmaking practice. Through these media, her current work explores her newly budding relationship with her grandmother, who is rapidly progressing through Alzheimer’s disease. Williams’ research into her family history reveals a strong genetic line of the disease, and her work wrestles with what it means to build an archive for a family who is destined to forget.
