Master of Design in Designed Objects

Leo Chen is a borderline designer; wandering around inhabits the border between art, concept, and interaction design. He always tries to find the rational yet sensually blurred boundary between design and art. His design has a unique interest in the information and systems intrinsic. He believes that design is the consequence of countless accidental works from creating new relationships by the human brain.

LC 01, Counter sitting chair

The LC 01 Chair was made with a clear purpose for the contemporary office environment. The project was constructed with simple but highly effective joinery with assemblies locked for the pressure points. The clean and continuous line was also built without any drastic juxtaposition of forms and shapes.

DROP FROM THE ROOF

The Chinese tea ceremony has a history of thousands of years, and the earliest tea ceremony can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. The tea ceremony provides guests with different tastes of tea and, at the same time, offers a state of mind integrated with nature. However, tea has been endowed with many cultural attributes that can intimidate young people. They are bound by the tedious process of the tea ceremony and expensive tea sets. More importantly, the tea ceremony is too long, and there is no way to adapt it to the fast pace of modern life. The design goal is to help contemporary young people to create a new tea set. Simplify the process of the tea ceremony while satisfying the functionality. Inheriting the idea of a tea ceremony allows more people to participate in this beneficial activity.

CARBONEM BEACON, Beacon

People are always talking about sustainable cities and homes, but the gap between imagination and reality is huge. Before taking actions, we need to know how much carbon we have produced, which part of it could be reduced, and how far we have achieved. Therefore, we are designing a carbon tracker for modern homes, a tool that kicks off our journey towards a sustainable future.

This is an electroencephalogram (EEG) system and installation that explores the transmission of raw signals and their fusion by natural human instincts. The installation presents the human senses transmitting and reacting to information integrated through sight, sound, and smell. Liberator for Initial Messages speculates humanity's initial messages system will no longer rely on language as the most natural means of communication. Instead, humans will use serial communication to parse complex emotions and multidimensional perceptions in the era of big data.
