Xinyan Wang 王鑫焱


Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Xinyan Wang (Chinese, b. 1995 in Beijing) lives and works in Chicago now. Xinyan Wang obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2017 from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in the Oil Painting Department, during that time exchange studied in Zurich ZHdK in the New Media department. She earned a Master of Arts in Fourth Studio of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2020. She is currently pursuing her second Master of Fine Arts degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Painting and Drawing department.

The solo exhibitions of Xinyan’s work include “Wang Xinyan: Archaeology of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Digital Age (2019)” at Frieze London, Asia House; “On Innocence in Ancient Times (2018),” China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. In addition, her work has also been exhibited and collected by The Chile National Museum and Panama Museum of Contemporary.

For her, the concrete content of the painting is no longer the focus of attention. What she is more interested in is the strong expression of emotion through the painting language. What matters is how this person or object makes her feel.
