Veronika Kapetiy is an interdisciplinary artist pursuing an MFA degree in Fashion, Body, and Garment from SAIC. Her work is a pictorial interpretation of memories, feelings of loss, and nostalgia. It manifests in installations, garments, and sculpture, with drawing always serving as an integral component of her practice—either as a direct storytelling vehicle or as a delicate technical approach. Veronika uses graphite, ink, and watercolors, and experiments with steel wire, scoby leather, and plant-seeded fabrics. She contrasts solid structures with transient materials, to create an ethereal essence.
Her artistic practice serves as a space for escapism, offering a temporary reconciliation of the juxtaposed aspects of her cultural heritage and lived experience. Influenced by post-Soviet architecture, Veronika is drawn to its bleak grayness, yet wishes to see it decay into a distant memory. Nature is another source of inspiration, alongside human violence toward it. Through the interplay of heavy manmade structures and fragile elements of nature, Veronika weaves narratives of melancholic nostalgia, misplacement, and conscious indifference. The purpose of her work is to create a space for introspection and contemplation, inviting viewers to explore the intricate complexities of memory and emotion.
