Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects

Ella Valenstein is an interdisciplinary artist who works spatially, exploring how where you are affects how you feel. She is from Washington, D.C., and is currently completing her MFA in Performance at the SAIC. Ella modulates spaces through DIY installation, performance, worldbuilding, photography, and fibers. Her materials include mirrors, projection, cast metal, ceramics, mylar blankets, and second-hand domestic items. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in studio art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts in Boston. She has built numerous immersive installations in unconventional settings and staged handmade puppet shows. Ella has worked at multiple nationally ranked children’s hospitals across the country as a pediatric nurse and as an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has profoundly influenced her artistic approach.
