Emilka Wolniewicz

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Fiber and Material Studies

Emilka Wolniewicz (she/her) is an artist, writer, and researcher. She is fascinated by theories of fashion and objects, chaos, consumerism, text, collected materials, translation, beauty and wit. Guided by words (1), and working through hand and body, Emilka renders material from found text and objects, as well as her own words and photography. Her practice investigates consumer culture with acute detail to process, texture, ornamentation, and critic. She creates through weavings, collage, code, garment construction, stitching, and embroidery, with specific choices of material such as cotton, found objects, light, and heavy conceptual thought.

Emilka Wolniewicz is an MFA candidate in the Fiber and Material Studies program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Emilka holds a B.S. in Nutrition and a B.A. in Human Physiology from the University of Minnesota.
