Emily Nicole Murray

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Murray’s work encompasses and exists in the tension, time, and layering between trauma, grief, and humor. She explores arbitrary hierarchies and healing modalities through painting, drawing, printmedia and performance. She makes paintings and calls them writings before making writings and calling them paintings. Drawings are just drawings. Murray thinks frequently about how to regularly incorporate semicolons while speaking. She is interested in the point where nihilism becomes absurdism and the depth and simplicity of the phrase, “If I don’t laugh, I’ll cry.”
