[You are Here], 2023, 3D printing, engraved mirror
[You are Here] is a part of the [Sensory Spatial Travel] series, serving as an interactive artwork where individuals project themselves beyond their 'bodies' into space. Extending a portion of the 'body' into the spatial realm and experiencing it in various forms represents a transition from self-cognition to self-recognition. The phrase 'you're here' creates a boundary between me and you and induces spatial sharing by reminding us once again that 'I'm here now.' While asking 'who am I?' and 'where do I exist?' [You are Here] engages in ontological exploration. It externalizes the concept of self, allowing everyone to observe themselves as we transition from private to public, thus externalizing and personifying 'me' into 'you.' A portion of the self becomes the 'other,' and in the process of observing this transformation, viewers also undergo a perceptual shift in spatial awareness. The reason why [You are Here] is considered important is because of "activeness." In this day and age of passive acceptance of the world, how do we actively consider oneself and the other. It is a question of how to actively think and use our senses in this era when even sensory acceptance is changing passively. In addition, all works are installed to be completed through interactive engagement, to open the possibility of images created by the work and the audience, such as creating and transforming the shape of the phrase "You are here" beyond passively watching the audience. One of the works of the series [You are Here] made with a mirror. The simple sentences engraved on the mirror tell the story of an individual extending along a gaze. The sentence that is saying "You are here at the moment you stare" shows an image of a momentary individual, especially as it moves and expands through its gaze. The audience reading the sentences engraved on the mirror soon find themselves reading the sentence and the fragmented sentences. Rather than being a perfect sentence, the individual enters the work "to read '' by combining letters spread here and there to guess the sentence and construct a new sentence. At this time, the structure of the mirror surrounded by various heights allows the projected audience to look at the image from various angles. The audience finds various projections of themselves rather than the singular projection which can generally be seen as a mirror on the wall. As a result, the individual moves from the letter to the person themself, that creates an individual's way of looking at 'I' and goes through the process of otherizing themselves.
