Kimmah Dennis

Master of Fine Arts in Studio, Painting and Drawing

Kimmah M Dennis (b. 1996, Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire) is a painter and photographer driven by traditional, experimental, and conceptual exploration of materials through familiar archives and the lack thereof. Kimmah’s journey originates in a warzone, shaped by her parents’ tales of survival during the First Liberian Civil War. Born amid the chaos, their accounts of government abuses, forced child recruitment, and the harrowing escape resonate in her work. Fusing inherited memories with her own encounters of mobility, displacement, and assimilation, Kimmah refuses artistic confinement to a single medium. This decision mirrors the unpredictability of her upbringing. Exploring diverse visual languages—painting, drawing, collage, and installation—she delves into personal, familial, and global storytelling. Kimmah’s practice reflects the complex tapestry of socio-political narratives, embracing the unexpected intersections of mediums traditionally considered incompatible.
