Mesoma Onyeagba
Mesoma Hammida Onyeagba, born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, earned her BFA in Painting from the University of Ottawa, Canada. Currently, she’s furthering her practice at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, set to graduate in 2024.
Her art practice is a personal journey, delving into the complexities of identity and self-expression. Mesoma aims to capture the beauty and power of black women while exploring her own identity. With a multi-disciplinary approach, she incorporates techniques like fiber, fashion, and painting.
In her recent works, Mesoma has challenged herself to become the subject, expressing her own experiences and emotions. This process has been transformative, allowing her to navigate the ups and downs of life and find her place in the world.
Her works go beyond visual representations, reflecting her innermost thoughts and feelings. Mesoma seeks to create new worlds and spaces that are both familiar and unknown.
