Paula Damasceno (b. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is an interdisciplinary artist whose creative research centers on multimedia and multisensorial installation, photo objects, and performances generated by critical engagement with cultures, and materialities. Often investigating ideas of sacredness and misrecognition as a medium* in and between private and public spaces, Damasceno focuses on concepts in decoloniality studies to inform her practice.

Damasceno’s work has been exhibited at the Weatherspoon Museum, the Southeastern Center for Photography, the Union Hall Denver, D’Art Galler/The Month of Photography Denver, and a solo exhibition at the Horace Williams House. She has delivered artists’ talks at the Halide Project, the Parsoson School of Desing, and the Afro-Latin American and Afro-Latinx Studies Project at UNC Greensboro. Her work was published in the Light Work Contact Sheet and the Hariban Catalog in Japan both with text by Lucy Gallun. She was awarded the 2023 Conceptual Photography at D’art Gallery Award, the 2020 Hariban Juror’s Choice Award, the Budapest International Photo 2020 Fine Art Silver Award, the Society for Photographic Education Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging 2019, and The Light Factory 2018 Throwdown Portfolio First Place Award.
