Cecelie Lopez is a movement-based performance artist, tuning into generalized ideas of; self transformation, testing bodily limits, nostalgic themes from their childhood, and opposing traditional norms. First feeling called to dance art around the age of sixteen, they went on to study technical dance training at Columbia College Chicago, later turning toward performance art as a primary medium. After transferring to SAIC to finalize their BFA degree, they follow multiple areas of study to develop skills in many different mediums. Besides performance art, fibers and flash photography play an important role in the diversity of their practice, allowing room for larger scale ideas to be realistically fruitful in finished product. Encapsulating both the mobility of dance as well as the disturbing non-humanness of breaking in the body within their movement, their performance works are created in combination with multiple forms: multi-media installation, fiber arts, sound connection, and object exploration.
