Susan Sidebottom

Susan Sidebottom is an interdisciplinary artist whose socially engaged practice offers a deeper understanding of the relationship between people and their circumstances. She uses photography, video, collage, and writing to explore themes of structural inequalities, human physiology, and community engagement.
Sidebottom has exhibited nationwide at The Levine Museum of the New South in conjunction with The Light Factory, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Art Center Sarasota, and the School of the Art Institute Chicago. Her work has been featured in NPR, Bloomberg Businessweek, among others, and her book, Thin Places, is included in the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection.
Sidebottom holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in journalism and speech communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At the School of the Art Institute Chicago, she co-curates the Parlor Room Visiting Artists lecture series and was awarded the Visionary Merit Scholarship.
