As a filmmaker I am constantly confronted with narrative tropes, constructions. Though storytelling is one of my favorite art forms, I am suspicious of the way narrative is used to package ideologies in media, from national stories to personal political stances. In today’s social climate, I can’t think of anything more important that the destabilization of these narratives, if only to show that even when we use documentary, real people, or real events, the minute they are recorded and manipulated, they become a delivery system for ideologies. I want the public to see that making video and using ‘the real’ is a construction. I want to make films and videos that I feel deconstruct their own desires for narrative.
