I’m Emily Holmes, an artist and SAIC Master of Art Therapy and Counseling Candidate, currently residing in Chicago, IL. In my art practice I explore the body as a vessel visualized through ceramic objects, which allows me to better understand my own body in relation to plasticity and resilience. These themes are reflected within my work at clinical and community art therapy settings rooted in trauma informed and integrative care.

During my time as a student, I held internships at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and the Disability Culture Activism Lab (DCAL) a partnership between Access Living and SAIC.

Artist Statement

Luncheon in the Gallery is a photo series that captures handmade ceramic dining plates situated within a colorful and palatable still life setting. The statements inscribed on the plates highlight some of the complexities in navigating an art therapy exhibition within an institution. Through this work I question how social and economic relationships within gallery spaces mirror those within art therapy spaces.
