Irmak Karasu is an artist from Turkey, currently based in Chicago as a MFA candidate at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of the New Artists Society Scholarship and Mithat Alam Education Foundation Achievement Award. She holds a BA degree in Film & Television and a BSc degree in Psychology from Istanbul Bilgi University.

Her practice revolves around film, video, performance and writing. Her work focuses on different forms of pressure and ordinary violations over female-defining bodies, spaces and voices. Both of her moving images and performances form from lingering sensuous response to captivating materials and differing physical forms. Through constructing a poetic language that emerges from sensual narratives, she aims to elicit representations of female minds and figures under pressure.
