Big Marsh Soundscape (Penthouse Mix), 2018 Sound
15:31 mins

Since 2015, sound artist and trained landscape architect Norman W. Long has been following the ecological restoration of a former industrial dumping grounds called Big Marsh in Chicago’s South Deering neighborhood. As Big Marsh transforms under the guidance of the Chicago Park District, Long records and remixes the marsh’s sonic environment into synthetic soundscapes that reflect the hybridity of this natural-cultural space. This soundscape is visually complemented by aerial photographs of Big Marsh by Terry Evans, who has documented sites of pollution, grassroots resistance, and restoration across Chicagoland.
