Andrew S. Yang

Andrew S. Yang is an interdisciplinary artist and scholar working across the visual arts, natural sciences, and history to examine the naturalcultural. His practice spans collage to installation art and ecological dynamics to the history of science. His current projects engage the entanglements of ecology, analogy, and material transformation.

Yang’s work has been exhibited from Oklahoma to Yokohama, including commissions for the 14th Istanbul Biennial (2015), the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2016), and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (2021). His essays and critical writing can be found in Art Journal, Leonardo, Biological Theory, as well as the recent Routledge Handbook of Art, Science, and Technology Studies and Kinship: Belonging in a World of Relations. Yang was co-curator of Earthly Observatory, the featured exhibition at SAIC Galleries in 2021, which explored how we sense, portray, and engage our deep planetary entanglements. He just completed his term as the Chair of SAIC’s Faculty Senate.
