Bio
Natalie Castro makes playful, exaggerated, whimsical designs that delight the viewer, while at the same time inviting them to be introspective. As an artist, she uses sculpture, video, sound, and fibers to convey an intimate evaluation of her thoughts and emotions. Through fashion, she uses knitting, pattern making, and fabric manipulations to create one-of-a-kind garments that carry a strong message. Compelled by themes of feminism, self-image, relationships, and the psyche, Castro always conveys a sense of a joyous, impish spirit.
“No Worries, No Rules”
Collection Inspiration | Artist Statement
My concept is inspired by the nature of children. Children have unique traits that are unmarred by society’s conventions. They are creative, joyful, uninhibited, playful, and unassuming. Children live by no rules; a skirt can be jacket, hat or purse to a child. These attributes are too often lost once we start growing up. My collection aims to capture those qualities for the modern person who wants to keep their childhood-self close at hand. My clothes are for people who are nonconformist, genuine, confident, and carefree.
