Sappho is from the San Francisco Bay Area, California and is inspired by the people she encounters and interacts with in everyday life, from family and friends to strangers on the train. She is interested in the unique ways that people express themselves within their society and culture. As well as focusing in fashion design she also explores fabric print and drawing, paralleling these different ways of making. She recently has interned for local Bay Area designer, Erica Tanov.

Collection Inspiration | Artist Statement
I believe that fashion represents the culture in which it is created, acting as a vital gear wheel that can be turned to prove a point, show an injustice and highlight beauty. I am exploring gender roles and wish to expand what society expects us to look, act and feel like. What is manly? What is feminine? Can the lines be blurred, enabling masculinity to be feminine and femininity to be masculine? In this collection, I foster alter egos, characters who are defiant. They both embrace and defy societal taboos and their garments have no gender.
