“Ni Una Mas/ Not One More”
Concept |
Ni Una Mas means not one more, the name of a powerful movement in Juarez, Mexico that
exposes and opposes the genocidal act of terrorizing and murdering women. I am
commenting on the lack of laws to protect factory women, specifically because they are
among those most often targeted and killed. I also incorporate elements of religion and
special occasions, like first communions. Combining the two narratives reflects a
heartbreaking transition from young and pure to older and disposable. My collection
proclaims that humans are not objects and women need protection now. It is easy to blame
those in charge, but we must take responsibility for not speaking out against what is allowed
in this world.
