This collection is based on Phantasmagoria the magic lantern show. Phantasmagoria was a play that used a magic lantern to project frightening images like skeletons, ghosts, and demons in the 19th century. Images were hand painted on the slides and were used in the production process behind the scene. The ghoulish images would create a spirit dreamlike experience, the show was full of delusions and a trip to the supernatural realm. I brought in elements of the garments that were worn during this time, with romanticism of the Victorian era, along with pieces of the phantoscope which is the machine that was used to create images for the performance. The projection technique was created by smoke and glass slides and used light and reflection. Within Phantasmagoria, there is a curiosity of the unknown and a sense to look through the lens to experience a different reality. In my process I have experimented with light and transparency, to reflect the light from the lantern and the dreamlike experience. I decided to create my own imp based on the ghoulish images that were being projected in Phantasmagoria.
