For my final garment, I am interested in exploring role of performance at the dinner table. Food is an integral part of our lives, regardless of who you are. Our bodies simply cannot survive without some kind of routine physical nourishment. Due to its vital nature, food has evolved beyond a means of physical nutrition in society and has expanded to existing as an instrument for commercial exchange and social interaction. In thinking about the broadening role of food and its potential future, I envisioned a dinner party of elite investment bankers and their wives. My garment is the attire of one of the attendees. In preparation for this momentous occasion, the attendee has spent hours agonizing over his wardrobe, Will his Ralph Lauren jacket aid in his hunt for promotion? Or will his Calvin Klein jacket be better suited? Which Rolex will show off his christmas bonus best? In attempt at assuaging this indecision, the attendee arrives at the dinner party wearing his largest jacket and every watch he owns. He spends the evening twisting and contorting his body to flash the label of his clothes or the diamonds of one of his rolexes. By the night’s end, through the wearing of a wardrobe of clothes and shaping his body, he has rendered himself completely unable to eat. The attendee, so overwhelmed with his obsession to impress, ceases to be real and becomes a parody of himself, a caricature of wealth.

As an artist, my personal life plays a crucial role in my art making. The most evident being my diaries, which act as a daily visual log of mundane tasks and whirlwinds of emotions. Often my diaries serve as both a tool for process and a jumping off point. In my years of journaling, I have become fascinated with vulnerability and what is revealed versus concealed. What do you edit, what do you hide, and, most importantly, what happens when you uncover these moments.
