“BORN AS SUMMER FLOWERS”
Concept |
My collection, Born as Summer Flowers, reflects the “Wang Hong” phenomenon that has evolved and permeated into social media, commercial products and daily life throughout the past five years in China. Lavishly displaying their beauty and luxurious lifestyle has become a daily routine for certain Internet “celebrities.” This message is being conveyed to younger generations, who may not recognize what is valuable in themselves, and what is real or not real behind the 2-D images of luxury. Repeating ruffles and the pink and purple hues represent stereotypical images of what is “considered” beautiful. The imagery of flowers is influenced by a Chinese proverb, “Every child is a flower to their motherland.” This collection represents my hopeful aspiration for all of us to live within the true image of ourselves.
