“From The Swimming Pool to the Snow”
Concept |
From the Swimming Pool to the Snow brings together the memories I have of Singapore and Chicago, two places I identify as home. I remember Singapore as a humid place of eternal summer, with swimming pools and beaches, as well as the torrential rains of monsoon season. Chicago, on the other hand, has always been cold and dry in winter, with the wind, the snow, the lake that freezes, and the salt on the streets that always leaves white stains on your shoes. Travelling back and forth between the two throughout my four years in college, and adjusting between the drastic weather differences, became the main inspiration for my collection. I attempt to be prepared for both, but ultimately am prepared for neither, balanced uncomfortably in the grey area. It is an investigation into my identity, and in creating my collection I hope to come to terms with the hybrid of different weathers
and places that I must call home.
